Today, in an update on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that it won’t be attending this year’s PAX EAST 2020 game show, citing the ongoing coronavirus as the main concern.
The platform holder had previously detailed the games it was planning on showing to the gaming press and public, including hands-on demos of The Last of Us 2, Marvel’s Iron Man VR, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and much more. The full statement is down below:
“Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”). We felt this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.”
While it’s obviously a disappointment to those who were looking forward to gettings some hands-on time with games before their release, health and safety are important, and we appreciate the effort Sony is making in doing its part in keeping its employees well. If you are going to PAX EAST 2020, please, please, please at the very least take the most basic of precautions; wash your hands, avoid physical contact with strangers, and cover your mouth if and when you need to cough and/or sneeze.
